Summary

Anesthesiologist, anaesthesiologist, or anaesthetist was the medical specialist responsible for the prevention and mitigation of pain and distress using various anesthetic agents, as well as for the monitoring and maintenance of a patient's vital functions throughout the perioperative period. In combat situations, anesthesiologists were responsible for dispensing and administering various painkillers and stimulants to soldiers to help them cope with the pain and stress of wounds.
