They became dark, polluted swamplands. But the Republic has been restoring them, with the help of Master Cin Tykan. Master Tykan is an expert in this wilderness. Summary
| This event took place shortly before the end of the Cold War on the planet Taris, during the Dark Plague crisis.Barsen'thor arrived on Taris on a mission for the Jedi Council. Upon arrival, Barsen'tor contacted Master Syo Bakarn via holocom, who asked the Jedi to find Master Cin Tykan, a Jedi Master believed to be suffering from the same disease as Master Yuon Par. Master Bakarn explained that Master Tykan helped with the restoration efforts along with Captain Nelex, head of the Republic Expeditionary Forces. Barsen'thor arrived at the Republic Expeditionary Force headquarters and spoke with Captain Nelex and Master Tykan's Padawan.Barsen'thor and Fess spoke to Aris Vauranelle, Master Tykan's Padawan, and Captain Nelex. They were warned in advance by the Council, but did not believe that Master Tykan was ill. Nelex reported that Master Tykan was on a mission with the expeditionary force. But as they were speaking, the expedition guardsman transmitted a distress call. Realizing that it would take time to assemble a rescue party, Barsen'thor and Fess took out a copy of the expedition's map from Nelex and set out on their own to find the expedition.Arriving at the marked location in the Republic Resettlement Zone, the Jedi and Fess were attacked by the Death's Claw pirates. After defeating them, the Jedi spoke to T8-C3, the expedition's lone survey droid that was in the area, which informed them that the expedition had gone offtrack and had been attacked by the Death's Claw. All members of the expedition had been killed with the exception of Tykan himself and a small survey team, who had left before the attack, carrying with them the expedition's findings, consisting of several medical holocrons and valuable relics.After visiting the Republic Aurek base and collaborating with Republic operatives on several important missions, the Consular and Fess arrived at the coordinates provided by T8.Arriving at the survey team's location in the ruins of the ancient Tarisian Dawn skyscrapper, Consular and Fess found two expedition members - Defte and Frej - trapped under a large piece of debris. The Jedi used the Force to lift the object and freed the men, only to discover two more members, Laria and Tal, clinging to their lives among the debris engulfed in fire. Consular used the Force to levitate Tal back to safety and then proceeded to perform the same trick with Laria. By choosing to save the woman, however, the Jedi had to sacrifice the holocrons that had also been caught on fire, much to the dismay of the final surviving member of the expedition, Doctor Edaine, who had insisted on saving the relics instead of Laria.Edaine, Laria and Tal explained to the Consular and Fess that after they had found the holocrons during their expedition, Tykan had decided to take them to the base as fast as possible, leaving the rest of the expedition behind. However, he had instead lured the survey team into a trap, having ignited the pollution and leaving them to die, stating that he had been punishing them for letting Taris be ravaged three hundred years ago. The Consular also learned that Tykan's next target was the Junction, an old purification facility retrofitted by the Republic to process poisonous gases. | ||
