The Liberator-class starfighter, known by the reconstituted Sith Empire as the Talon fighter, was a model of one-pilot fighter used by the Galactic Republic prior to and during the Great Galactic War.Fast, nimble, and deadly, the Liberator was a true multi-role starfighter design, able to serve as an escort, interceptor, or precision air-to-ground attack craft with equal prowness. Liberators was even able to make attack runs on enemy capital ships or space stations if dedicated bombers were unavailable. Swivel-mounted wings allowed the Liberator to be stored abroad larger vessels with impressive efficiency, often catching enemy forces by surprise when multiple squadrons were deployed from a single starship.Liberator was armed with two wing-mounted laser cannons and concussion missile launcher with 6-missile magazine. It was equipped with a sensor package which allowed to detect and track enemy vessels. Maximum mission time for the Liberator was 37 hours and its life support system was designed to sustain a pilot for approx. 150 hours. Standard cargo included field survival kit, medpac and standard blaster pistol.A highly advanced Liberator variant, known as Striker, was gradually introduced into Republic starfighter squadrons. Due to its enhanced capabilities and complex controls, the Striker was reserved only for the most experienced combat pilots.
